Savage Gear Defiance SG2 Medium Game 2.21m 10-35g

The Agile All-Rounder: Precision and Performance in a Compact Frame

The Savage Gear Defiance SG2 Medium Game 10-35g is a masterclass in balanced design, offering the perfect middle ground for the modern lure angler. While longer rods are designed for the open coast, this 2.21m (7ft 3in) model is the ultimate choice for active fishing. It is a highly maneuverable workhorse that excels in technical lure presentationwhere the ability to accurately twitch, jerk, and walk a lure is far more important than raw casting distance.

Built on a premium 24T and 30T high-modulus carbon blank, this rod features a fast, progressive action. The 10-35g rating is the most popular crossover weight in the UK, providing enough finesse to work a 12g surface slider for Bass while possessing the backbone to punch out a 30g metal jig or work a medium-sized paddle-tail shad through a heavy tide.

Why the Medium Game 2.21m 35g is a Gerrys Choice:

• Technical Maneuverability: The 7ft 3in length is ideal for boat, kayak, and urban lure fishing. It allows for high-precision casting around structure like pier pilings or bridge buttresses and provides an intimate connection to the lure for advanced retrieval techniques.

• Crisp Toray Carbon Blank: The high-modulus carbon blend provides a fast recovery speed. This means the rod doesnt feel sloppyit snaps back into place instantly after a cast or a hook-set, giving you a visceral, direct connection to the fish.

• SeaGuide Saltwater Hardware: Equipped with SeaGuide Gunsmoke SW guides and a Gold Label reel seat, this rod is armored for the salt. These components are specifically chosen for their corrosion resistance and their ability to handle modern, thin-diameter braided lines without friction.

• Versatile Power Curve: Despite its light feel, the progressive action ensures the rod loads deep into the blank during a fight. This helps to absorb the powerful lunges of a large predator, protecting light hook holds while the butt section provides the necessary lifting power.

Where to Use the Defiance SG2 Medium Game 35g in the UK

• Morecambe Bay & Boat/Kayak Angling: For our local boat regulars, this is a top-tier choice for targeting Bass and Pollack. Its shorter length is perfect for landing fish close to the kayak or boat and for casting accurately into the boils around the Heysham outfalls.

• Harbour and Marina Sniping: Ideal for fishing in tight corners. Use it to work 15g-20g shads or small hardbaits for Bass around moored boats and pier legs where a 9ft rod would be unmanageable.

• Riverbank Bass & Sea Trout: A brilliant choice for the roving angler. If you are trekking through undergrowth to reach hidden tidal pools on the Lune or Wyre, this compact rod wont snag on overhanging branches.

• Freshwater Pike & Zander: An exceptional rod for Street Fishing on canals or rivers. The 35g upper limit is the perfect match for standard-sized crankbaits, spoons, and 4-inch soft plastics.

• Estuary Finesse: Its 7ft 3in reach is perfect for casting across tidal creeks to hit the far bank where predators lie in ambush, offering a fast enough action for instant hook-sets in moving water.

The Gerrys Fishing Verdict:

The Savage Gear Defiance SG2 2.21m 35g is the rod for the angler who values feel and control. It turns every cast into a high-precision hunt and makes every fight a visceral experience. If you want a rod that is light enough for all-day use but strong enough to stop a double-figure fish, this compact specialist is the one.
