Daiwa 24 TDR 4012QD: The Heavyweight King of the Blue Reels

The unmistakable blue livery of the TDR is more than just a brandit is a promise of bulletproof performance. At Gerrys Fishing, we know the 4012 size is the true workhorse of the range. While the TDR has been a staple since 2005, the 2024 TDR 4012QD elevates that legacy by incorporating AIRDRIVE Design, making this the most powerful and refined version ever produced.

Built for the angler who pushes their gear to the limit, the 4012 features a Hard Aluminium Body that houses a Digigear II system. This combination ensures that the reel doesnt flex or bind when you are reeling in a heavy feeder or a double-figure carp from the far bank. With the new AIRDRIVE Rotor, the reel feels significantly lighter in use, providing a faster, more responsive retrieve than its predecessors.

Key Technology Upgrades

• AIRDRIVE ROTOR (Zaion V): By using the high-rigidity Zaion V material and a new spherical design, Daiwa has reduced the weight of the rotor. This lowers start-up inertia, giving you instant rotation the moment you turn the handle.

• AIRDRIVE BAIL: The new hollow bail arm is lighter and reshaped to guide the line perfectly onto the roller, virtually eliminating tangles even when using light braids or in windy conditions.

• QD (Quick Drag): Transition from a free-running spool to full fighting tension in less than half a turn. Its the ultimate tool for controlling powerful fish under the rod tip.

• HIP Line Clip: The High Impact Protection clip is spring-loaded to absorb the shock of the feeder hitting the mark, ensuring your line isnt damaged during high-intensity distance casting.

Where to Use the TDR 4012QD

The 4012 is the powerhouse of the TDR family. The Gerrys team recommends this model for:

• Large Commercial Reservoirs: The ideal partner for 12ft and 13ft distance feeder rods. It has the spool diameter and cranking power to hit 70m+ and bring heavy Method feeders back with ease.

• Powerful River Fishing: If you are fishing the Trent, Wye, or Severn for big barbel or chub, the aluminium body provides the winch power needed to move fish away from snags and against heavy currents.

• Distance Bream Fishing: The LC-ABS Spool and Cross Wrap technology ensure your line (especially braid) stays in perfect condition for maximum distance and zero bedding in.

• Big Waggler Work: If you are using heavy sliders or extra-large wagglers on deep natural venues, the 4012 offers the stability and line pickup speed required for efficient float control.

Gerrys Verdict:

If you need a reel that will never let you down, regardless of the venue or the species, the 24 TDR 4012QD is the one. It combines twenty years of TDR grunt with futuristic AIRDRIVE finesse. It is the ultimate investment for the serious feeder and specimen angler
